The Artist
Artist, designer, and founder of the Philip Karto Atelier. Transforming authenticated vintage luxury objects into contemporary works of authorship.
01 — Statement
The work does not decorate an object. It transforms it. Each piece enters the atelier with a history already written — an authenticated vintage bag from Louis Vuitton or Hermès — and leaves carrying a second identity that cannot be undone.
Heritage and contemporary culture are held in tension rather than reconciled. Paint, thread, metal and reconstruction are used as instruments of authorship, not as finishing. The monogram is never hidden; it is confronted.
Nothing is replicated. Irregularity is accepted as evidence of the hand. Every execution is singular, and every singular execution is signed.
“This is not customization. This is authorship.”

02 — Biography
Raised in Bandol, on the Mediterranean coast of France, among craftsmanship, sunlight and creative independence. American pop culture and rock'n'roll entered early and never left — the beginning of a visual language built on bold self-expression rather than restraint.
He relocated to Miami in 2013 and founded the Philip Karto atelier in 2017. Authenticated vintage bags from Louis Vuitton, Hermès and Goyard are dismantled, restored and rebuilt by hand before any intervention is made.
What began as individual interventions has become a structured artistic language — four Editions that define how the artist enters an object, and a body of work carried into culture without campaign or endorsement.
03 — Creative philosophy
Intervention over the monogram — Miami atelier
The object is authenticated, dismantled and restored before it is touched artistically. Nothing is disguised. The original craftsmanship remains legible beneath the work.
Then the surface is confronted — painted, embroidered, reconstructed, signed. The gesture is irreversible, and that irreversibility is the point.
No two works are identical. Heritage luxury becomes a medium rather than a reference, and each piece is numbered and registered as a work in its own right.
“Luxury objects should not disappear with time. They should evolve.”
04 — Signature visual language
A vocabulary that repeats across silhouettes. The design is recognized first, the technique second.
05 — Selected works
The Editions do not rank the work. They define how the artist enters the object.
